C-Cam Comics Print On Demand!

Beginning with issue #15 (April 2000), C-Cam Comics will initiate a series called "Print On Demand" comics.  These are books that are prepared up to the printing stage but are not actually printed until ordered.  They are stored on cd-rom disks and generated  on demand.  This will allow us to be available on an individual issue by issue basis.

The Print On Demand titles are exclusive to the Dynamic Super Sara at this time.  All issues from Super Sara #1 thru #14 are still available for a limited time while their supplies last.  Beginning in 2006, we will begin reprinting issues #1-14 in graphic novel format.   As of issue #15, 2000,  the Print On Demand basis begins.

Since we do not know who you are nor do we know what stores carry C-Cam Comics, the only way we can connect with you is via the internet and by e-mail.  By joining our mailing list, we can keep you updated with what is new to the publishing world and which of our 'old' titles have joined the exclusive 'Print On Demand' basis.

WHY 'PRINT ON DEMAND" COMICS?

Anyone familiar to the world of comics is probably aware that during the 1990's, the comic book market was collapsing.  No company  escaped this disaster.  Comic Books were selling worse then than at any other point in their glorious history.  The success of the Hollywood movies has definitely helped in recent years.

Only a hand full of titles sell over the 100,000 copies.  The top 20 titles barely come in with over 50,000.  From 51 on, the sales drop dramatically.  The last time we checked, there were over 500 publishers producing around 1,000 different comic book titles per month!  Some years ago, most comic shops changed their focus of sales from comics to something else and have limited the comics that they carry to the top 100 best selling titles.  Obviously, the situation exists that now most comics published lose money.

By doing "Print On Demand" titles, C-Cam Comics eliminates the up-front printing costs and the distributor/retailer cut of the sales.  Usually, the comic publisher must give up 60% of the cover price to the distributor in order to get the title distributed.  He must also pay shipping costs which can take away as much as another 5%.  This would work fine as long as the sales were in the thousands of units.  The problem is, in today's reduced customer base, sales are in the hundreds, not thousands.

For our first 3 years, C-Cam Comics has existed issue to issue squeaking out enough revenue to produce each subsequent issue.  The entire comic industry customer base is shrinking so fast, that even this revenue is in jeopardy.  Sales through a distributor leaves C-Cam Comics in the red.  By selling directly to the customer, our readers, we can hopefully stay in business.  With the advent of e-bay, comic readers are now use to mail order, pay postage on the product and find exactly what they are looking for.  Our retailers even order directly through us and enjoy an extra savings!

We still plan to produce top quality stories with outstanding art!  Our goal is to be the leader in black and white and full colour comic book publishing.  Our plans are building up to issue #50 in February 2008!   In fact, starting with issue #19 of the Dynamic Super Sara, that title will resume printing in a standard size format once again (and in full colour)!  For anyone interested in her origin, that story arc is from issue's #31-#35! (2005)
